The shooting took place around 12:30 a.m. Saturday at the Summer House Apartments at 5401 Burnham Dr. That's on the city's southside. CCPD officers, including Officer Hicks, were responding to a report of shots fired and a domestic disturbance. Police say the gunman was a 26-year-old man. They have not yet identified him. They say the man pulled out a gun after a brief struggle and shot Hicks. Other officers then shot and killed the man. Those officers have also not been identified and are on standard administrative leave.
