The gunfire that killed a black woman and wounded a police detective who crashed through her door has fueled debate over so-called no-knock warrants

It’s the stuff of nightmares: Breonna Taylor and her boyfriend were in bed when a trio of armed men smashed through the front door. Gunfire erupted, killing Taylor, 26.

The three men turned out to be plainclothes police detectives, one of whom was wounded in the chaos and violence that March night. The death of Taylor, who was black, and a review of how Louisville police use “no knock” search warrants, which allow officers to enter a home without announcing their presence, often in drug cases to prevent suspects from getting rid of a stash.

Taylor’s name is one of those being chanted during nationwide protests decrying police killings of black people. The unrest began after the death of George Floyd, a black man who pleaded that he couldn’t breathe as a white Minneapolis police officerMore than two months after Taylor’s death, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer announced last week that the police department’s use of no-knock warrants has been suspended indefinitely.

“These changes and more to come ... should signal that I hear the community, and we will continue to make improvements anywhere that we can,” Fischer said.

Or just sneak into their house at night and put silly putty in their underwear,,.

I had Miami Beach police bust in my front door because my stoner neighbor mistook my retractable dog leash for a gun and said I was waving it in my backyard. If it would have been at night and I was in my bedroom, I would have pulled my gun and be dead right now.

I hope they burn it all down. The republican party has broken it's side of the societal pact. No reason for others to hold up their end of the bargain

Justice for Breonna Taylor
