“You can see how the whole industry is changing,” he said this week about closing his Euclid restaurant that had been opened 21 years. “If I look back retrospectively I kind of saw the writing on the wall before Covid, what the industry was doing with staffing issues.”
“But the problem is we also got older – meaning, we’re a very mature staff of hard-working people - but we’re wearing out. A lot of staff that have left the industry – fragility and getting older. Covid just pushed, at least us, over the top. We couldn’t hire fast enough to replace with younger blood. And when that opportunity came they ran toward the more trendy, newer places, which is expected.
He owns the 100-year-old building at 21939 Lakeshore Blvd. in Euclid. The building includes three apartments upstairs and three storefronts he took over for the restaurant.“We never claimed we were getting richer,” said Jurcisin, who is originally from the west side of Cleveland. He moved to the Euclid area in 1991.
He also had an eatery in Concord for a while; the Beach Club Grill on Johnnycake Ridge Road lasted 2009 to 2016 before he sold to Firehouse Grille & Pub of Willoughby.
