The lawsuit claims the acts were carried out by a paraprofessional assigned to the student, who has Down syndrome.
A Kansas school employee is being accused of locking a student with Down syndrome inside a cage and comparing him to an "animal," according to a lawsuit filed Friday.
At various time, the paraprofessional allegedly hit the student in the face, yelled "derogatory words" at him and denied him access to food during lunchtime. A separate incident detailed in the lawsuit accuses Bahret of placing the student in a "locked cage" meant to store athletic equipment. The paraprofessional allegedly photographed the boy while in the cage and distributed it to other employees, comparing the student to "an animal" and "making light of his serious, demeaning and discriminatory conduct."
