The officer, who has not been identified, was responding with other officers to a call for a domestic violence incident at a home in the 1200 block of North Chambers Road, police said in a news release.
There were multiple people at the home and some were “uncooperative” with the domestic violence investigation, the release said. Officers eventually decided to arrest a 38-year-old man on domestic violence charges of harassment and criminal mischief, police said. But when they attempted to arrest the man, another man interfered, Sgt. Faith Goodrich said Sunday. There was some sort of physical altercation between the second man and police officers, Goodrich said, though she was not sure the “severity” of the altercation.
That altercation inside the home ended with one police officer shooting the second man in the lower leg. Goodrich said there is no evidence the man was armed.
