While this 2021 slasher trilogy was a huge, critically-acclaimed hit for Netflix, the horror series still hasn't spawned a fourth movie or spinoff.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Fear Street trilogy was an instant classic horror movie franchise from Netflix, but the 2021 series has, inexplicably, still not received any follow-ups. Although 2020s horror movies have been doing big business at the box office, there are precious few fresh slasher franchises debuting this decade.

Netflix's Fear Street trilogy was a critically acclaimed trio of R-rated slasher movies loosely based on author RL Stine's novel series of the same name, and these proved huge hits with both audiences and critics upon their summer 2021 release.

Since the Fear Street movies were based on RL Stine’s novel series, each installment had numerous great villains to choose from. This meant that there were multiple creepy villains that were barely even glimpsed during the first two movies, understandably leading to the assumption that Fear Street was setting up worse villains for its final outing. However, Fear Street: 1666 subverted this expectation by focusing on one major villain that had been hiding in plain sight the whole time.

Why Fear Street 4 Hasn't Happened Yet While there has not been any official word on the future of Fear Street 4, one major reason that might explain the delay is its main stars being busy with other projects. Since Fear Street was released in 2021, lead actors Sadie Sink, Ashley Zukerman, Kiana Madeira, and Gillian Jacobs have only gotten busier. Sink, of course, has a busy schedule thanks to Netflix's own Stranger Things.

While a new Fear Street movie could focus on all-new characters - and at least some of the franchise’s main characters were killed off in the original trilogy - the inability to bring back some of the horror franchise's major legacy characters might play into the lack of Fear Street spinoffs to date. Fear Street's cast played a significant role in the Netflix slasher trilogy's considerable success.
