MONTGOMERY , Ala. -
ALDOT announced Thursday that from Wednesday, July 3 through Sunday, July 7, there will be no temporary lane closures on Alabama interstates in the interest of safety. ALDOT is encouraging motorists to put safety first and be extra cautious while there is increased traffic over the holiday by slowing down, buckling up, and eliminating distractions.
Under the new law, drivers are still allowed to make “hands-free” phone calls, and to answer a call with a single button or swipe of a finger, but it is illegal to hold or be touching your phone while driving. If you have to use your device, ALDOT suggests pulling over to a safe location and parking your car before doing so.Justice Department charges nearly 200 people in $2.
