When Carpentersville Village Board Trustee Umberto Garcia spotted a 1936 Carpentersville police car in a photo on Facebook, he knew he wanted to find a way to bring it home.
He showed the photo to Village President John Skillman, who remembered the old Buick. His late father, also a village president and a one-time police chief, would drive it in parades and other village events.The pair decided they wanted to buy it, but that proved “easier said than done,” Garcia said.
Enter Phil Zilinski, pastor of Fox Valley Baptist Church in East Dundee and Carpentersville Police Department chaplain. Zilinski was planning a trip to Nevada in April 2021 and offered to make a detour while heading home to pick up the car.
