Discover the transformation of La Palma's oldest lighthouse into an exclusive luxury hotel, blending historic charm with modern amenities. This hidden gem offers guests a unique stay in a working lighthouse, complete with infinity pools, private dining, and breathtaking ocean views.

The Faro Punta Cumplida lighthouse on La Palma , a historic beacon with over 150 years of history, has been transformed into an exclusive luxury hotel by Floatel, a company specializing in unique accommodations .

Located on the volcanic island of La Palma, known for its rugged coastline, lush forests, and towering mountains, this hidden gem offers guests a one-of-a-kind experience. The lighthouse, once in ruins, was meticulously restored and now serves as a secretive retreat, blending history with modern luxury. The hotel is featured in the third episode of Channel 4's *World's Most Secret Hotels*, where owner Tim Wittenbecher shares his passion for repurposing old lighthouses into high-end hideaways.

Wittenbecher, who has seven similar properties across Spain, Italy, and Germany, explains that the project was born from a desire to preserve historic structures while offering travelers an unforgettable stay. The Faro Punta Cumplida lighthouse was in a state of disrepair when Wittenbecher discovered it, with its patio destroyed by a typhoon and its windows boarded up.

After securing a 50-year lease from the Spanish government in 2016, he embarked on a three-year renovation, carefully restoring the building to its former glory while adding modern amenities. The result is a stunning blend of old and new, where guests can experience the thrill of staying in a working lighthouse. The hotel features just three exclusive suites, each with a kitchen, dining room, and one or two bedrooms, all housed in the former lighthouse keeper's residence.

A shared staircase leads to a private viewing deck at the top of the lighthouse, offering breathtaking 360-degree views of the ocean. One of the most striking features is the infinity pool, which appears to spill directly into the Atlantic. Guests can also enjoy locally sourced breakfasts, including fig marmalade, and private candlelit dinners prepared by a personal chef. The lighthouse remains operational, with its LED beacon still guiding ships at night, creating a mesmerizing light show for guests.

Wittenbecher emphasizes the uniqueness of the experience, noting that guests love the sensation of being inside the rotating light, rather than just observing it from afar. The hotel's design preserves much of the original structure, allowing visitors to feel like lighthouse keepers while enjoying modern luxuries. Nightly stays start at €290 (£250), offering an unparalleled escape from reality. Heike Wittenbecher, the project's architect and Tim's wife, describes the awe guests feel upon arriving at this extraordinary destination.

The Faro Punta Cumplida lighthouse hotel is not just a place to stay—it's a magical, once-in-a-lifetime experience
