Glasgow’s winter gritting plan has been revealed.
has a legal duty “to prevent snow and ice endangering the safe passage of pedestrians and vehicles over public roads”.The fleet includes 20 large and small gritting trucks, 12 trailer carriageway gritters, 23 carriageway snow ploughs and one narrow gauge brine spraying vehicle for segregated cycle ways.
The road priorities are all main bus routes roads for school dropping off points, access to fire, ambulance and police stations and main bus garages, access roads to Park and Ride car parks, Buchanan bus station, A or B class roads, hills steeper than 1 in 10 gradients and industrial areas. Priority cycle way routes are busy commuter routes, the segregated cycleway network, The National Cycle Network Number 75 from Cambuslang Bridge, boundary with South Lanarkshire Council, in the east to Riverside Museum in the west. The routes through Queen’s Park, Kelvin Way, Glasgow Green, and Pollok Park
The forecasts will alert the decision maker, managers and winter supervisors whether any gritting operations are likely.
