'WhatsApp took the name “green app” a little too seriously'
Parts of the messaging service have turned green, with certain buttons now the same colour as the logo. The arrow button when sending photos has turned from blue to green, while the notification on the right-hand side of unopened chats has also changed from blue to green in the new update.
It comes a week after the popular messaging service upset users by adding a capital letter to its status bar. Inside chats, users are told whether a person is 'online' or 'typing.' This has since been updated to 'Online' and 'Typing,' and while it might be a small adjustment, it certainly didn't go unnoticed.Taking to X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday , people were quick to slam to the new design. @jefff256 asked: "Why isn’t anybody talking about the ugly new green WhatsApp or am i the only one seeing it?" as @ItsDekat complained: "woke up to green whatsapp, eww". @Yiskendy joked: "WhatsApp took the name “green app” a little too seriously" as @_rabiahhh asked: "WhatsApp, what’s this weird green?" The popular messaging app explained why it's changed its colours. WhatsApp said it is using colour 'more intentionally' so users can 'focus on the things that matter most on the screen.' If you're yet to see the changes, then it will only be a matter of time. WhatsApp, which has approximately two billion monthly active users, said: "If you can’t see these changes yet, there may be a short wait before they reach everyone. Please make sure to keep WhatsApp updated to the latest version in the meantime." And it's bad news for those who don't like the new update, with WhatApp confirming the changes are 'not something you can opt out of.' WhatsApp users might have spotted even more alternations in recent days as the latest update continues to roll out. The messaging app highlighted the changes on its website, which include an update to its colour scheme. This includes a change to the shade of green used to match WhatsApp's brand colour and some icon and buttons looking different, having changed shape or colour. Meanwhile dark mode has been made 'even darker' in make text easier to read and more white space has been added when in light mode. Elsewhere, some parts of the app are more spaced out than before and in you'll also notice the WhatsApp logo in the chats tab. Android users will notice that the tabs that were previously at the top of their screen will now be at the bottom, in order to make them 'easier to access.'
