The pair have met before on a previous show
A Strictly Come Dancing judge says she "has a history" with one of the contestants of this year's series. Shirley Ballas, who is the acting head judge on the panel, explained she knows one of the contestants from a previous show she worked on.
The 63 year old, who was previously married to Sammy Stopford and then second husband Corky Ballas, recently took a seat on the BBC One Show sofa to discuss the upcoming series. The show launched on Saturday, September 16, and revealed all the celebrity contestants and their professional partners reports Yorkshire Live.
Presenter Alex Jones quizzed Shirley about the new line-up, and asked if she had any favourites so far. Shirley replied: "I'm not going to name three or four because there's a tremendous amount of journeys in there but I do have an itty bitty - I know we shouldn't but - an itty bitty soft spot for Angela Rippon."The judge then shared that she "has a history" with Angela, as she used to work on the predecessor show, Come Dancing.
"She's almost 80 so I'm really hoping she shows us all a thing or two that she can do. Fabulous already." The 63 year old went on to say that she "didn't make any notes" following the group dance, which involved the entire 2023 celebrity cast, because "nobody made any mistakes." Shirley has been a judge on the show since 2017 when she took over from Len Goodman. She has also been a dancer herself from age 7 before she retired and went into teaching in Latin American competitions in 1996.
