'Yeah, baby!'

A rare Austin Powers style 1960s Jaguar E-Type is set to go under the hammer with a £1 million estimate. The 1961 competition car is one of just seven racing E-Types ever made.

It is described by Silverstone Auctions as "one of the most sought-after ex-works cars in existence anywhere in the world." The seven formidable race-tuned E- Types were destined for some of the racing giants of the 1960s. This car was owned by Tommy Sopwith’s Equipe Endeavour racing team - Sopwith being a luminary of the contemporary racing scene. Lionel Abbott who sourced the car, explains: “I’ve known the car for twenty years.

"This fabled car is one of the four from the original seven to remain in its original configuration. The history file contains everything that substantiates the remarkable story of UPM 400 with letters from Tommy Sopwith and Jack Sears."But nothing prepares you for the visual appearance of these early cars or the performance of this truly exceptional early E-type with name drops at every chapter in its history.

A total restoration was undertaken by E-Types UK in 2010 with extreme care taken to retain the unique features of the very early cars. The Jaguar will be up for auction at Silverstone Auctions Classic & Competition Sale at Silverstone Festival on August 25.
