The RAF said it had taken the decision to ground the fleet of Second World War-era aircraft, which perform displays at events aircraft, amid its investigation into the death of Sqn Ldr Long. The RAF paid tribute to Sqn Ldr Long in a statement, saying he was “a great friend, colleague and a passionate, professional aviator”.
The flight, which include Spitfires, Hurricanes and a Lancaster bomber, was due take part in a flypast at Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, near Spilsby, on Monday.
