An expected 14,500 new pilots will be needed in America every year over the next decade to meet demand

a flight from San Francisco, California to Atlantic City, New Jersey. But instead of landing ten miles from the coastal resort, the plane touches down some 60 miles inland, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The remainder of the journey must be completed by bus. That is the solution that American Airlines, the country’s largest carrier, will put in place from June toThe number of airline pilots in America peaked at 84,520 in 2019, according to the Bureau of Labour Statistics .

Still, lucrative corporate bookings are yet to take off: sales remain one-third lower. The turbulent price of jet fuel is also depressing company earnings. And employment costs have risen in response to staff shortages. The annual salary of the average airline pilot in America is up by 30% compared with five years ago, to $200,000. It is now America’s highest-paid profession after medicine. It is also the most distinctly male and white job outside logging: nine in ten pilots are white men.

Pay them better

I can see why there would be a shortage of pilots - they either refused to get jabbed or can't work now because of it. Captain Robert Snow was the pilot who went into post-vaccination cardiac arrest 6 minutes after his plane touched down in Dallas with 200 passengers on board.

“highest paid profession after medicine” lmaooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Another graph that illustrates why gas prices were low back then. Nobody was traveling. The price of oil briefly went negative.

It takes thousands of dollars for schooling, that includes over 1500 flight hours to qualify as an ATP. Airlines can only hire qualified pilots. If anything, ATP schools should do all they can to help potential students pay for schooling & flight hours. Tell the whole truth

No thanks. I'll just have the best of the best, if you don't mind.

Haha. I was an airline pilot and it sucks. The pay is nowhere near the top for an average pilot, you have to be a captain of a Jumbo on a major with 20 years seniority to make half what a successful dentist does, and you're still away from home 2/3 of the month if you're lucky

Do you believe a job should be given to you based off of anything other than merit?

Yes, pilots are valuable today, especially military ones ...

can you keep your 'white men' obsession for yourselves plz, you re starting to sound super racists as time goes, its becoming tiring.

Racist article.

It's quite understandable, it will definitely change
