The new grey-lidded bin is currently being rolled out to over 71,000 households in time for kerbside collections starting on October 30
It is hoped the fourth bin - currently being rolled out to over 71,000 Perth and Kinross households - will increase recycling rates and save Perth and Kinross Council money.
Funding from the Scottish Government's Recycling Improvement Fund has been used to issue the new recycling bins to 97 per cent of local households. Currently households can place six recycling materials in their blue-lidded bins: paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, plastic containers, cans/tins and cartons . At present, the accepted six does not include soft plastics or foil but that will soon change which PKC has described as "wheelie exciting news".
The Conservative councillor said: "We got a lot of grief from the public about the Stick to the Six campaign but it turned out to be the right thing to do as the figures indicate to us." Cllr Forbes said it would be "really useful" to have the percentage information to present to constituents to prove how the extra bin will boost recycling.
