In head-to-head contests, Ms Mordaunt defeated Mr Sunak 39-32 and Ms Truss 27-26, and Mr Sunak bested Ms Truss 39-27. The results were similar when only Tory supporters were considered.
The numbers were reversed for Mr Sunak with 71 per cent claiming to know enough about him to have an opinion. 46 per cent said the same about Ms Truss, 19 per cent about Tom Tugendhat and 17 per cent about Kemi Badenoch. Fifty-seven per cent agreed that “the next Prime Minister should prioritise cutting taxes, even if this means an increase in Government borrowing” with 24 per cent saying that balancing the books should be the priority for the new administration.
