New information shows tragic route
It was meant to be just another night out for Jay Slater. A night of fun, laughs and partying with his friends in the south of Tenerife. The evening was spent dancing at the Papagayo Beach Club in Playa de las Americas, at the huge closing party for the NRG music festival.
Bouquets of blue and white flowers bore touching messages from the apprentice bricklayer's mum Debbie Duncan, dad Warren Slater and older brother Zak. They had been placed on the dirt track 22 miles from the town Jay had been trying to reach. It was later revealed that the body was that of the 19-year-old. An investigation by the Canary Islands' High Court of Justice is yet to be completed, although Jay's autopsy found he suffered 'multiple injuries compatible with a fall in a rocky area'.
He had told his friends he was going to attempt the 11-hour walk back to Los Cristianos, in the south of the island, instead of waiting for a bus. But his journey took him in the wrong direction.
