Man Utd defender Luke Shaw is the club's longest-serving player but was absent for large parts of the season through injury.
Rooney said he was '100 per cent' convinced that some of United's injured players were fit enough to play and Erik ten Hag responded by stating his squad are fully committed.
"I have had setback after setback and have worked so hard to get back to fitness but things just haven’t gone my way. I pushed so hard to get back before the end of the season. Shaw exchanged a warm embrace with Ten Hag during the celebrations after the FA Cup victory and his prolonged absence this season has been a huge blow for United.
He was deemed fit enough to play at Kenilworth Road after overcoming a late fitness test but, with the benefit of hindsight, he should have been given more time to recover. Shaw didn't play any football between August 19 and November 26 but instead of being eased back into action, he was asked to start every game until he couldn't again.
You don't need to be a medical expert to conclude United might have been asking for trouble by starting Shaw in successive games over a short period after sustaining muscle injuries. Although Shaw is United's longest-serving player and can be outstanding when available, his injury record is not good enough and it might cost him his starting place.
