Rush-hour traffic is building in the city centre once again due to roadworks at a major city junction causing delays to buses and motorists. Lane closures and temporary traffic lights are in place at the busy Maid Marian Way junction with Upper Parliament Street, which opened as a T-junction on Sunday, October 6, following eight months of transformation work.
Residents, nearby businesses and bus operators Nottingham City Transport and Trent Barton have all complained about the heavy traffic congestion caused by the roadworks. NCT said that traffic in the area was worse than before and that the changes have "disproportionately affected bus users".from both operators have been currently experiencing delays, extended wait times and missed stops as a result.
She said: "They’ve spent £8 million on this T-junction while our roads are full of potholes and homeless people. Customers are avoiding us because it’s difficult to cross over, and they’re taking other routes to get into the city." A manager of UBeauty salon, in Upper Parliament Street, said that the usual October rush has not materialised. She said: "Normally, we’re fully booked at this time of year, but recently, our appointments have dropped. Customers might be avoiding the area because they’re worried about parking and traffic issues caused by the works."There are heavy queues around the roundabout, as expected, but neighbouring roads appear to be coping well during the busy rush hour.Road .
If you're travelling in the city centre, you can expect delays around the area as people leave work and get on the road.A total of 27 bus services are currently experiencing delays as work to transform the junction of Maid Marian Way and Upper Parliament Street continues in. Bus operators Nottingham City Transport and Trent Barton have warned passengers of extended wait times and missed stops while roadworks take place.
