Abdul Ahsan is due to be sentenced for the murder of Andre Marshall
Ahsan's barrister Gillian Jones KC is now addressing the judge. She says she agrees with the 30 year starting point for the minimum term. She says that Ahsan had no motive for the killing, and argues that it was carried out at the behest of others. Ms Jones argues that there is evidence of 'immaturity' on Ahsan's part. She said there was evidence of his 'susceptibility to peer pressure' and a 'lack of consequential thinking'.
He was attracted by all that. For some reason we will never know, he was prevailed upon to do this terrible thing." Ms Jones says that Ahsan suffered from poor conditions in prison in Pakistan, including issues with sanitation, a 'lack of food' and 'extreme overcrowding'. She asked the judge to impose the shortest minimum term commensurate with the seriousness of the offence.
