The gravestone of former ECHO journalist and respected Hillsborough campaigner Dan Kay will be unveiled at a special ceremony this weekend.
Dan Kay was 45 when he died suddenly in May 2023. His family have since spoken of the mental health battle he faced before his death and a number of fundraising events have been held to raise vital funds for charities supporting those facing mental health struggles. Dan was a hugely popular figure in the Liverpool ECHO newsroom, where he helped to pioneer digital journalism. He was also a tireless and hugely important campaigner on behalf of the families, victims and survivors of the 1989 Hillsborough Disaster.
He was also a senior figure in Liverpool's Jewish community. On Sunday May 6, a special stone setting ceremony will be held for Dan at Broad Green Jewish Cemetery on Thomas Drive in Liverpool. Marking the grave of the deceased with a gravestone is an ancient Jewish custom, often now accompanied by an unveiling ceremony. Held at the graveside, the ceremony typically lasts around half an hour. Dan's family have invited his friends and colleagues to attend if they wish to.The Liverpool Daily Post newsletter delves into the biggest stories on Merseyside
