Chotto Matte, a Japanese and Peruvian restaurant, has closed its Marylebone location in London to focus on a new, larger restaurant opening in Manchester's St Michael's development in early 2025.
A top restaurant has closed one of its London sites as owners focus on their upcoming arrival at Gary Neville’s big Manchester development. Japanese and Peruvian restaurant Chotto Matte has decided to shut its Marylebone location on Paddington Street as it gears up to open a new rooftop spot atop the St Michael’s building next year.
The 450-cover restaurant, which will overlook Manchester Town Hall, has been hailed as one of the largest in the city - spanning 20,000 sq ft - and will also mark the first regional site in the country for Chotto Matte. The restaurant, which just opened its first location in Dubai and also has sites in Miami, Toronto and San Francisco, reportedly closed its quaint Marylebone spot last month. Restaurant Online reports the 60-cover site, which first opened in 2022, was closed due to its small size. The publication also said the move was decided so owners could focus on its flagship Soho location as well as the upcoming Manchester arrival. The new Manchester restaurant, which has an opening date of 'early 2025', is set to be stylish and contemporary and will feature robata grills, lava stone features and a chic backdrop that 'captures the essence of the city prism'. A spokesperson for the restaurant chain, which is owned by Noble Hospitality Group, told the publication it had closed the London restaurant to ‘embark on an exciting new chapter of growth and international expansion’. The £400m St Michael's scheme, off Deansgate, is expected to bring £120m investment to Manchester and create more than 3,000 jobs. Alongside Chotto Matte and the Abercromby pub, it will also be home to a 191-room hotel, 181 flats, 185,000 sq ft (17,200 m2) of office space and a public park called by St Michael's Square. Led by Neville’s investment business Relentless, the redevelopment scheme was first proposed in 2016 with construction beginning in 202
