Bangor-Belfast electric ferry design revealed

Design of Bangor-Belfast electric ferry by Artemis revealedArtemis Technologies has unveiled the design of a new 100% electric foiling fast ferry to be used in a Belfast to Bangor pilot scheme.

It will be powered by a patented electric propulsion system enabling it to fly above the water, which the company says reduces fuel costs by up to 85% compared with conventional high-speed diesel ferries.

Looks good. But why is everything to do with Belfast, Bangor, Belfast, Belfast, Belfast etc. Why is money 💰 not spent on rest of Nothern Ireland.

There’s up to six trains an hour, and frequent bus services directly from centre to centre. Oh, and the two places are connected by land! On this side of the Bann, we’ve been waiting for the A5 road upgrade since the 1960s.

Seems like a fancy way for more piss heads to get to Crawfordsburn beach.

From my visits to NI I have always considered Bangor so close as to be a suberb of Belfast. A ferry seems totally unnecessary and bizarre.

Does this make sense ?

Isn’t the Belfast Bangor route more of a proof of concept than a viable long term profitable operation? Noting that these boats are being built in Belfast. Makes sense to test them nearby

Be better if we could get a Belfast to Liverpool ferry that doesn’t take a week to cross….🙄

Am I missing something? Is it just about reducing emissions? Going by google maps, I would save 6 minutes in travel time on the new ferry but queuing, embark, disembark will prob take twice the journey time. Is it worth it? Im not convinced.
