) - A new president is being named to lead the state body responsible for regulating Alabama ’s public utilities. On Friday, Gov. Kay Ivey’s office confirmed she’s named state Rep. Cynthia Lee Almond , R-Tuscaloosa, to fill the seat on the Alabama Public Service Commission, which was recentlyPresident of the Alabama Public Service Commission Twinkle Cavanaugh is stepping down from her position for a role in the federal government.
“Since 2021, I have been able to count on Cynthia to get real, meaningful work done in the Legislature,” Ivey said, “and while I know the people of Tuscaloosa will miss her representation in the State House, every person across this state will now benefit from her leadership on the Public Service Commission.” Almond is an attorney who works in private practice, “which has largely concentrated on estate planning, as well as probate, business law and real estate,” according to the governor’s office.“I know how important this commission is to the people of Alabama and to the industry sectors it regulates,” Almond said. “I believe my training as an attorney and legislator will prove to be helpful in performing this role. Almond says she will vacate her House seat on June 15. Her new role with the PSC will go into effect the next day when Ivey swears her in as president.
