The Dallas City Council has allocated $16 million for the third phase of the Trinity Forest Spine Trail, which will connect residents to the previously inaccessible 110-acre Parkdale Lake, a natural space hidden for over seven decades. This complex segment will close a critical gap in the 50-mile Loop Dallas network, enhancing mobility and equity in southern Dallas neighborhoods by linking White Rock Lake to the Trinity River Audubon Center. The project, part of a larger $90 million investment with over $86 million spent in seven years, includes donations and partnerships to ensure completion within a few years.

A secluded 110-acre lake, hidden in Southeast Dallas for over 70 years, is set to become a new public green space as part of the Trinity Forest Spine Trail 's third phase.

The Dallas City Council approved $16 million for construction, which will extend the trail from both north and south toward Parkdale Lake, bridging a gap between the Lawnview DART Station and the existing trail near Samuell Boulevard. This phase is described as the most technically complex part of The Loop Dallas's 50-mile trail network. Once complete, the nine-mile Trinity Forest Spine Trail will link White Rock Lake to the Trinity River Audubon Center via a continuous corridor.

The first phase opened in 2023, the second in April added to existing trails, and the third will connect them through the middle, meeting at Parkdale Lake. The broader initiative aims to improve mobility, access, and connectivity in historically underserved southern Dallas neighborhoods, with over $80 million of the projected $90 million cost invested south of I-30.

The second phase included widened sidewalks, an elevated segment, and better pedestrian access near U.S. 175 and Lake June DART Station, highlighting that the infrastructure serves transportation and equity goals beyond recreation. The Loop Dallas has facilitated more than $86 million in trail investments over seven years and secured the donation of the Parkdale Lake property from Oncor to the city, essential for the trail alignment and public access.

The project, funded through public-private partnerships including City of Dallas, Dallas County, TxDOT, and federal sources, is expected to be finished in a few years, addressing the challenge that many parks and green spaces exist but lack easy access for residents
