A comprehensive review of the Cuisinart 13.6L Tri Zone air fryer, highlighting its spacious design, multiple cooking modes, dual drawers, and integrated pizza oven. The author compares it to popular models like Ninja and details its performance, ease of use, and whether its large footprint is worth the counter space for frequent cooks and families.
While the air fryer brand on everyone's lips may be Ninja , I would argue that there's a better value, more useful model on the market - the Cuisinart 13.6L Tri Zone air fryer .
With bundles of cooking modes, a slick touchscreen interface and three compartments - including two baskets and a handy pizza oven drawer - you can understand why this has quickly become a kitchen staple for me over the classic Ninja air fryer. I've also had my fair share of air fryers over the years, from tiny, one pot jobs to the biggest of the lot.
And our expert team of testers have reviewed dozens of models too, including the latest Ninja Crispi Pro, the roomy XXL Tefal air fryer and the Philips 4000 dual drawer. While I do prefer one that tucks away neatly in the corner, like the Ninja Crispi, I've now fallen in love with Cuisinart's triple-threat offering, even though it is a giant of an appliance.
I can safely say that, while not the cheapest you can buy, it's a worthwhile investment considering its size and performance. Design and ease of use are critical factors when choosing an air fryer. Most appliances cook similarly, but a well-thought-out design separates a frequently used device from one relegated to the cupboard. The Cuisinart Tri Zone excels here.
Its digital touchscreen is attractive and intuitive, offering six preset cooking modes: air fry, roast, re-crisp, grill, bake, and dehydrate. The air fry temperature ranges from 100°C to 200°C in precise 5°C increments, allowing for exact recipe adherence.
However, its considerable height means it won't fit under standard kitchen cupboards, a significant consideration for those with limited space. The unit is larger and more cumbersome than many competitors, demanding substantial counter real estate. Initially irritating in a small flat, its constant use has made this compromise acceptable. Both the main drawers and the pizza oven tray are removable and dishwasher-safe, simplifying cleanup.
A handy 'shake reminder' alerts you to flip or jiggle food midway, eliminating the need to set separate timers. The elevated design of the cooking surfaces ensures food doesn't sit in accumulated fat, promoting crispier results. Performance is where the Cuisinart Tri Zone truly justifies its footprint. I have prepared everything from frozen fish fingers and chips to personal pizzas and a full English breakfast (sans eggs) in this versatile machine.
The two independent drawers allow simultaneous cooking of different items at different temperatures and times-a major advantage. Burgers in one drawer and sweet potato fries in the other cook perfectly without flavour transfer. The 'roast' setting has produced exceptionally juicy and flavourful chicken thighs and drumsticks, perfect for meal prep.
However, not everything is flawless; oven chips sometimes dried out, though this is likely a product limitation rather than an appliance fault. For a hearty fry-up, the three zones were invaluable: sausages and bacon in one drawer, hash browns and roasted tomatoes in another, and toast made using the dedicated toasting function in the bottom oven. The primary operational drawback is that while the top drawers can be synchronized to start together, they cannot be programmed to finish simultaneously.
This meant the sausages cooled while waiting for the hash browns to finish, a minor inconvenience in an otherwise stellar performance. Ultimately, for anyone who prioritizes capacity, versatility, and family-sized cooking, the Cuisinart Tri Zone's three-zone system delivers unmatched convenience, making its large size a trade-off many will gladly accept
