KOMO News, Titus-Will Automotive Group, and USO Northwest partnered for the third annual Thank You for Your Service lunch at Joint Base Lewis-McChord during Military Appreciation Month. Volunteers served free spaghetti to troops, with donations supporting USO's mission to provide a home away from home for military families.
During the month of May, KOMO News, Titus-Will Automotive Group, and the United Service Organizations ( USO ) Northwest joined forces to celebrate Military Appreciation Month by hosting a heartfelt lunch event at Joint Base Lewis-McChord ( JBLM ) in Washington state.
The third annual Thank You for Your Service lunch took place at the Camp Lewis USO Center, a facility that serves as a home away from home for military personnel and their families. Volunteers prepared and served spaghetti with garlic toast to troops and visitors, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The event was specifically designed to express gratitude for the sacrifices and dedication of service members, with organizers emphasizing that appreciation should extend beyond holidays and special occasions.
Junko Pilch, a dedicated volunteer with USO Northwest, shared her personal connection to the organization. Having served in the Air Force for ten years, Pilch explained that the USO has been a part of her family for generations. It has served my grandfather, my father, my brother, my sister, my husband, myself, and my family, she said. This is my way of giving back and ensuring that troops have a place to feel at home.
The meals are provided completely free of charge to service members, and USO Northwest Executive Director Donald Leingang noted that the luncheons are intentionally scheduled just before payday to help military families stretch their budgets. What you might pay $15 or $20 for at a restaurant is offered here at no cost, thanks to partnerships with organizations like Titus-Will and KOMO News, he added.
Before the meal, representatives from Titus-Will delivered snacks to the USO center and presented a financial donation to support USO Northwest's ongoing mission. Leingang highlighted that the USO receives no government funding, relying instead on community partnerships to raise over $1 million annually in the Pacific Northwest. Brandy Newman of Titus-Will emphasized the company's commitment to supporting JBLM as an integral part of the local community.
Each USO center is designed to welcome service members, their families, and even pets, providing a safe and supportive environment. Pilch urged the public to remember that military members protect the country every single day, and they deserve daily recognition for their sacrifices. This event was a powerful reminder of the gratitude owed to those who serve, and it underscored the importance of community support for military families throughout the year
