A car carrying five teenagers crashed into the River Nene, resulting in the deaths of Declan Berry, 18, and Eden Bunn, 16. Three others escaped with injuries after the vehicle became fully submerged.

Two teenagers died and three others were injured after a car they were in crashed into a tidal river and became fully submerged in Cambridgeshire on March 17.

The incident involved a blue Volkswagen Polo carrying five teenagers that veered off the road at North Brink near Wisbech St Mary and entered the River Nene around 8:20 pm. Declan Berry, 18, was driving the vehicle. His body was recovered two weeks after the crash following extensive searches by police, fire services, and volunteers, including his heartbroken family who participated in a 14-day search effort.

The body of 16-year-old Eden Bunn from Sutton Bridge, Lincolnshire, was found within the car the day after the accident. Two 16-year-old girls and an 18-year-old man escaped with non-life-threatening injuries. An inquest held in Huntingdon on May 28 heard details of the tragedy. The coroner, Simon Milburn, offered condolences to the families.

Declan Berry had been preparing to join the British Army later in the summer after completing a recruitment trial in Birmingham, a dream his older brother Connor said he was close to fulfilling. Connor described Declan as a vibrant, humorous young man who loved cars and worked in the family's garden services business.

Friends and family had celebrated Declan's 18th birthday on March 12, just five days before the crash, with a photo posted online showing him next to his blue Volkswagen Polo. After the accident, family members and relatives gathered at the riverbank to lay flowers and pay tribute before Declan's body was found. Eden Bunn was remembered by her family as the kindest and most loving girl, whose world revolved around her horses, Daisy and Dolly.

The family expressed profound grief, stating that words could not describe the tragedy that would stay with them. The River Nene at North Brink is a tidal stretch connecting to The Wash, with depths varying between nine and fifteen feet depending on the tide. The inquest was adjourned until August 17 pending further investigations
