The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Gulfport Police Department.
GULFPORT, Miss. — The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Gulfport Police Department that occurred Friday, May 22, at an apartment complex on Three Rivers Road .
Officers responded to a call about an individual in the area with a weapon. Officers located the subject and attempted to detain him at the scene. Officials say the subject resisted, fled and tackled an armed individual. One officer and the armed individual discharged their firearms during the encounter.
The subject and the armed individual were struck and transported to a hospital. No officers were seriously injured. MBI is assessing the incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the attorney general’s office.
