A gun was discovered outside Sullivant Elementary School on the west side of Columbus after staff members noticed children looking at it during recess. The school’s administration immediately responded, ensuring no students touched the weapon and confirming no injuries occurred.
Principal Tammie Gale addressed families in a letter, emphasizing the school’s commitment to safety. She wrote, Safety is a top priority in all our endeavors here at Sullivant Elementary School. I am writing to inform you about a concerning incident that impacted our day. Our students' well-being is always our top priority.
I urge you to remind your student that if they see something, they should say something. Police were called to the scene and secured the firearm, though investigators have not yet determined its origin. Authorities encouraged anyone with information to contact the 24-hour anonymous Safer Together hotline at 844-SAFER-OH.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a Columbus police officer was shot in the Linden area on Wednesday evening, according to the Fraternal Order of Police. Additionally, Jaricah Wright, accused of causing a deadly wrong-way crash on a local interstate, had her bond set at $500,000, more than two weeks after the fatal incident.
Former Ohio State President Ted Carter, who resigned last month, was also mentioned in reports for allegedly attempting to secure a job for a woman at the university. In another case, a Columbus mother is warning parents to monitor their children’s whereabouts after her 12-year-old son was attacked by a group of teens.
