Skoda’s EV family is set to grow with another MEB-based crossover and we have the scoop on it
The Elroq is Skoda 's electric replacement for the combustion Karoq in the compact crossover segment. It will be the first model to get Skoda ’s new Modern Solid design language and have name badge on the nose.
It's expected to make its debut this autumn offering up to 350 miles of driving range. Officially announced last year through a silhouette teaser, the 2025 Elroq represents the Czech automaker’s electrified successor to the combustion-powered Karoq in the ever-popular compact crossover segment. More: What We Know About The New Renault 4 Electric Crossover Our spies recently scooped a series of prototype test mules wearing camouflage to fool prying eyes. Not us, though! We've digitally decoded the camouflage to bring you an exclusive first look and delve into everything we know about it to date. Sharp Attire Essentially a downsized version of the Skoda Enyaq, the Elroq's design is both striking and reminiscent. It features split lighting units, with Matrix LED main beams positioned lower in the bumper. The front fascia is further accentuated by a slim, fully enclosed grille, a sculpted bonnet adorned with a new Skoda wordmark, vertical air curtains, and a sleek lower intake. From the side, it flaunts a prominent character line and sharp surfacing, exuding a sleek and modern aesthetic. A sloping windscreen and muscular rear haunches contribute to its dynamic profile. At the rear, you'll find an angular rear window, a wraparound spoiler, a minimalist bumper, and angular taillights reminiscent of those found on the Enyaq. Interior Smarts Inside, the Elroq will aim to impress with an expansive, standalone infotainment system, complemented by a compact digital instrument cluster and a head-up display. A two-spoke steering wheel will incorporate physical buttons and haptic scroll wheels for intuitive control. Additionally, a mobile digital key will empower users to access a plethora of features via their smart devices, enhancing convenience and connectivity. More: 2025 Kia Tasman Pickup Rendered To Reality And Everything Else You Need To Know Skoda has indicated that the Elroq will measure approximately 177.1 inches long, making it an ideal family car with a spacious and practical interior. Built on VW’s MEB platform, the Elroq will share components with its electric counterparts. Intelligent Speed Assist adds another layer of safety and comfort by using traffic sign recognition and navigation data to adjust the car’s speed smoothly and anticipatory. For instance, it continuously and smoothly reduces the vehicle speed to the 30 mph limit before entering a built-up area. Watts to Burn Battery specifications have yet to be confirmed, but our sources suggest that the Elroq could be equipped with either a 62 kWh or 77 kWh pack. The base model may utilize the smaller 62 kWh pack paired with a rear-mounted motor generating 177 hp and 229 lb-ft of torque. Higher-tier models could feature a 286 hp unit, while a more potent dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant might offer up to 340 hp in vRS guise. Expect a driving range that exceeds 350 miles on a single charge. Additionally, the car will boast pre-conditioning functionality, which preheats the battery to optimize DC charging speed in colder ambient temperatures. Rivals and Reveal The Elroq will face stiff competition from Kia’s Niro EV, Ford Explorer , Mini Aceman, Volvo EX30, MG 4, Smart #1, Jeep Avenger and Renault Megane E-Tech. An official reveal is expected this fall, with sales likely to commence shortly after as a MY2025 model. Do you like Skoda's direction with its electrified offerings?
