Manchester United confirms Sir Dave Brailsford's departure from the board of directors, marking the end of his involvement with the club. The former Ineos Grenadiers team principal had scaled back his role earlier this year and is now replaced by two senior INEOS figures. His tenure saw significant changes, including training ground renovations and strategic missions to restore the club's past success.
Sir Dave Brailsford has officially severed all ties with Manchester United , as confirmed by recent filings from the Premier League club. The 62-year-old, who played a pivotal role during and after Sir Jim Ratcliffe's minority takeover of the club in February 2024, has stepped down from his position on the board of directors .
This move comes after Brailsford had already scaled back his involvement in June 2024, transitioning back to his role as director of sport for the broader Ineos group. Despite stepping away from day-to-day operations, Brailsford had remained on United's board alongside the six Glazer siblings, former chief executive David Gill, and legendary ex-manager Sir Alex Ferguson. The formalization of his departure was recorded on April 30, with Companies House documents confirming the termination of his directorship.
According to reports from The Athletic, Manchester United plans to appoint two senior figures from INEOS to replace Brailsford on the board. His tenure as a director, which began on February 19, 2024, spanned a tumultuous season for the club, marked by a 15th-place finish in the Premier League and a defeat in the Europa League final.
Despite these setbacks, Brailsford was instrumental in the renovation of United's training facilities and spearheaded several initiatives aimed at reviving the club's former glory. Currently, Manchester United occupies the third position in the Premier League standings, having secured Champions League qualification with three matches remaining
