RIO DE JANEIRO - A woman brought a 68-year-old man in a wheelchair into a bank branch and tried to get him to sign for a loan, but he had been dead for hours, Brazilian police said on Wednesday.

Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes wheeled a cadaver into a Rio bank and told the teller the man wanted a loan for 17,000 reais , security camera video showed.

Ms Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes was arrested over taking the body of 68-year-old Paulo Roberto Braga in a wheelchair to a bank branch in Bangu, a neighbourhood in Rio de Janeiro, Brazilian newspaper O Globo reported. In the video, Ms Nunes can be speaking to Mr Braga - whose eyes appear to be closed and complexion pale - at times holding the man’s head upright.

Reuters reported that Ms Nunes responded by saying: “He doesn’t say anything, that’s just how he is.”
