ICYMI: Western diplomatic boycott of Beijing Olympics widens - The Independent International

A woman takes a photo of the logos of Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Winter Games in Shougang Park, one of the sites for the Olympics, in Beijing on December 7, 2021.

These include the persecution on pro-democracy groups in Hong Kong, a former British colony, and human rights abuses against Muslim minorities in the Xinjiang region. Beijing warned the United States would “pay the price”, while it accused Canberra of “political posturing and selfish games” and “blindly following” Washington.

Beijing has defended the camps as vocational training centres aimed at reducing the appeal of Islamic extremism.
