WASHINGTON - The United States, the country hardest hit by the coronavirus, on Saturday posted 66,528 new cases, a record for a 24-hour period, according to a tally from Johns Hopkins University.

On Saturday, President Donald Trump donned a face mask in public for the first time, finally yielding to intense pressure to set a public health example. News reports this week said aides practically begged the president to relent and wear a mask in public - and let himself be photographed - as coronavirus cases soar in some states.
