HOUSTON :Two weeks of losses in U.S. offshore energy production spiraled on Thursday, with prolonged outages from Hurricane Ida leading to oil contract cancellations around the globe.

Royal Dutch Shell Plc, the largest oil producer in the Gulf of Mexico, on Thursday declared force majeure on deliveries to Asia due to hurricane damages. It said 80per cent of its Gulf production remained offline. The storm has removed more than 20 million barrels of U.S. Gulf production from the market. Some 1.39 million barrels per day of crude and 1.72 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas output were shut-in on Thursday, according to offshore regulator Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement.Damage assessments continued on Thursday at Shell's West Delta-143 offshore facility, which serves as the transfer station for all production from three deepwater oilfields.
