TUNIS: Tunisia's arrest of an expert investigating possible violations of an arms embargo on war-torn Libya has sparked a diplomatic standoff between the North African country and the United Nations.

On Tuesday, a group of researchers published an open letter in several European newspapers, demanding his immediate release. Tunisia's neighbour has been plagued by violent chaos since the 2011 overthrow of longtime dictator Moamer Kadhafi in a NATO-backed uprising.
