Mdm Halimah said that competing in the Olympic is no easy task, and that athletes who do so should be shown appreciation.“We have to appreciate the tremendous sacrifices and stress that our athletes have to undergo. And the Olympics is not a walk in the park,” she said.
Other public figures have expressed their support for Schooling, and called on Singaporeans to support him, with Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Edwin Tong describing him as a “true sporting legend”. Mr Tong, who watched the heats live in Tokyo, said that Schooling’s place in history is assured, and he believes that both Schooling and Quah Zheng Wen, who also competed in the 100m butterfly heats on Thursday, will return to race again.
Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin, who is also in Tokyo, said that while many Singaporeans are disappointed with the result, the biggest disappointment would be felt by Schooling himself.
Must try harder next time. The goal is to bring back a medal for the nation!
Be nice and kind to our athletes regardless of their results. Only with a supportive culture, can we have a strong sport team in the future. They have put in their best efforts at Tokyo 2020 Olympics. My congratulations to all. Cya at the next Olympics again. Cheers.
While I am not a sport person, we need to have empathy and grace for those that gave their all and did not win. Winning is a bonus but the journey towards that is what matters (Spirit of Excellence) Let’s support our local talents regardless of the results☺️
It is ok to loose, but not at that kind of result. No respect for the Olympics.
