SINGAPORE - The takeaway sale of alcohol at some Robertson Quay establishments has been disallowed, after photos of people socialising and allegedly flouting safe distancing measures at the riverside area drew the ire of netizens, as most of Singapore hunkered down at home in the battle against Covid-19.

The directive came after a post on Facebook showing several photos of people failing to stay least 1m from each other in the waterfront neighbourhood went viral, having been shared more than 1,700 times since Saturday . People were sitting on the steps drinking and smoking, she said, and restaurants were selling beer in takeaway cups.

URA said it was aware of online posts of people congregating around restaurants in Robertson Quay, and of"rumours of a ban on the sale of alcohol in the area". "I was so angry. If any of them gets Covid-19 now, it's taxpayers' money paying for their hospital bills... It was all expats, and the locals were there jogging past, shaking their heads. It's irresponsible, you have no regard for the country that is hosting you."

Just stop that is all? Givem some fine to help contribute to the war chest!

This flagrant rule breaking is a slap in the face of every law abiding resident in Singapore. I hope every single person flouting the (very clear) rules here feels the full force of the law. Unacceptable

being ang moh myself - this is embarassing, total lack of respect for other people. and where are SIA ambassadors? see them only in hawker centers and on MRT station..never outside(too humid?)

Makes the rest of us who’ve been following rules look like utter fools.

If these photos or videos keep on coming out and are from places like these, people would take this country system having 2 differing standards.

Maybe the CB has just gone on too long? You can't lock up people for almost two months. Mass protests are occurring in Germany, Poland, USA, against lockdown measures. SG Death Count = SUPER low. Dorm workers are infected but not in ICU. Flatten the Fear!

Flak SPF should get them to pay the price!!! Ang moh can come and do anything they like is it?

Hi from Europe here. Now you probably have a good idea why we had such a high toll of infected there. Zero responsibility among lots of people. Pls fine this bunch or better- they must serve community service. Might teach them some respect of the rules

Unfortunately many people have the mentality that the govt can't always be checking and they won't be caught, so they just do whatever they want regardless.

send them out!

I really wish these people would come to their senses...so many examples around the world of infections spreading coz of such gatherings and still folks don’t get it. StayAtHome

They are trouble makers! Bad luck for the alcohol sellers.

Commonly seen at coffee shops too. Gathering near coffee shop, smoking, chatting, coffee. They just can't stay home...

Now I sort of understand why Thailand banned the sale of alcohols...

Agree, tough action needs to be melted out. We are into 6 weeks of our Circuit Breaker so there isn’t really any excuse....

What about boat party at Marina Keppel bay ? Is it okay to have a drinking party ?

As an expat, I am embarrassed that these guests if your country are so selfish and only think of themselves.

Such selfish irresponsible idiots! Don’t just fine them. Jail them too! If offenders are foreigners, terminate their work pass and bar them from working in SG again!!!😡 If they got infected, make them pay for their own treatment cost!!😡
