TAIPEI: Taiwan will from next month ration water for more than 1 million households in the centre of the island because of a drought but the technology hub of Hsinchu will not be affected, Economy Minister Wang Mei-hua said on Wednesday .

Hsinchu, home to companies such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd , the world's largest contract chip manufacturer with clients including Apple and Qualcomm, would not be affected, she added. People take photos on the exposed riverbed of Touqian river, a main water source for Hsinchu Science Park where major semiconductor companies are based, in Hsinchu, Taiwan during an island-wide drought on Mar 12, 2021. TSMC, in a statement to Reuters, said it maintained"contingency plans for each stage of the government's water restrictions".
