SINGAPORE: Singapore reported 793 new COVID-19 cases as of noon on Friday , taking the country's total to 26,891.

As of Thursday, 5,973 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.READ: COVID-19 could be with us for a long time, but it can be contained - Head of NCID But Professor Leo Yee Sin, executive director of the National Centre for Infectious Diseases , also said the coronavirus can be contained.

Echoing an assessment by the World Health Organization that the coronavirus might never go away, Prof Leo said that with the suppression of the virus, Singapore can reduce the rate of infection and the death toll while buying time until vaccines become available.
