SINGAPORE — The police have alerted the public to a fake Singapore Police Force website that phishes for users’ confidential information by claiming that their Web browser is “locked”.
As it is an image, victims would not be able to click on the Start menu or to close/open applications, and would assume that the desktop was indeed locked. The fake website would further allege that the browser was blocked “due to viewing and dissemination of materials forbidden by law of Singapore”.
Such illegal action could result in monetary losses for the victims, as scammers would use the details to make unauthorised purchases and transactions. How to deal with the fake websiteThe public is advised to do the following if they encounter the fake SPF website:
