SINGAPORE: Singapore has announced its intention to run for membership in the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs , said the Ministry of Home Affairs in a media release on Saturday .The announcement was made by Second Minister for Home Affairs Josephine Teo during the 64th session of the commission, which was held in Vienna, Austria from Apr 12 to 16.
The Commission on Narcotic Drugs is the UN's main drug policymaking body. It meets annually to review and analyse the global drug situation, develop strategies on international drug control and recommend measures to address the world drug problem.SINGAPORE'S NATIONAL STATEMENT "As a global transshipment hub, with our excellent transportation links to all parts of the world, Singapore is vulnerable to being used not just as a market in itself, but as a transit point for drugs," said Mrs Teo.
