RSAF's tanker aircraft refuels Australian and US F-35 fighters for the first time

DARWIN - In the skies of the Australian outback, fighter jets from different air forces, including the F-35 Joint Strike Fighters, pull in close one after another to receive fuel from the Singapore Multi-Role Tanker Transport aircraft.provided valuable training for the Republic of Singapore Air Force crew, ahead of the delivery of Singapore's own next-generation F-35Bs in 2026.

"It does give us an opportunity to learn, because in the future we are also acquiring the F-35s," she said. But unlike the other aircraft which relied on the MRTT's boom refuelling system - which allows faster fuel transfer but requires a trained tanker air crew to operate - the F-35Bs used a probe-and-drogue system.

Since its introduction, the MRTT has been involved in other overseas exercises, as well as humanitarian missions, with its ability to transport cargo and people across large distances.
