Muhyiddin's trusted aides and ministers are laying the groundwork for the election, to “straighten the messy political scene by seeking a fresh five-year mandate from the people”.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 — Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is reportedly planning for a snap general election likely in the first quarter of next year, Tokyo-based Nikkei Asian Review reported today citing anonymous sources close to the prime minister.

“None of the important bills will go through and that would be detrimental for the administration,” one of the sources told the news outlet. But earlier this month, Lubok Antu MP Jugah Muyang quit PKR to support PN, bringing the majority back up to three. NAR reported the source saying that Muhyiddin is confident of a victory if a snap election is called in the next nine months, as PH are still undecided on its own prime minister candidate.

Azmin has today denied rumours he is forming a new multi-ethnic political party. He has previously been rumoured to join a former Barisan Nasional multi-ethnic component, Gerakan.
