Qatar still studying Russian defence system, minister says.

DOHA - Qatar said on Monday it was still studying the purchase of Russia's S-400 missile air defence system, adding the potential deal -- reportedly opposed by Saudi Arabia -- was none of Riyadh's business.

"There is a discussion for procurement of various Russian equipment but there is no understanding as of yet as to this particular equipment ," Sheikh Mohammed told a joint news conference with Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Qatar and Russia signed a military technical cooperation agreement on air defence and military supplies in 2017, but talks for the S-400 have been muted amid reports that Saudi was concerned by the prospect of Qatar deploying its anti-aircraft missiles to strike Saudi targets. "Regarding the arms sales that Qatar has with Russia or with any other country, we believe that for Saudi or any other country, it is not their business," said Sheikh Mohammed.
