His late father was born in Hainan and moved to Malaysia as a boy.
The hall is said to be his ancestral home, South China Morning Post reported on Thursday. His surname in Chinese is Huang.Many other videos circulating on Chinese social media platform Douyin also explore Wong's ancestral ties to China.a 10-minute video, also by RedAnts, shows a visit to the ancestral hall in Wenchang, complete with a tour and a short interview with a woman who claimed to be PM Wong's "cousin". The video has gained over 3,000 likes and more than 270 comments.
In one clip featuring a speech from November 2022, he talks about how his father, who died in 2021, had to "eke out a living" as a first-generation immigrant from China. One commented: "Wenchang has many talents, including politicians, generals, scientific and technological minds, and business elites."
