SINGAPORE: The Singapore Police Force is investigating an incident involving a woman who was seen on video hitting a gong repeatedly as her neighbour was carrying out a prayer ritual at the entrance of his home.

A report was lodged on the incident and a 48-year-old woman was assisting with investigations, SPF confirmed on Thursday .The video went viral on Wednesday after it was posted by Facebook user Livanesh Ramu. In the 20-second video, a woman is seen hitting a small gong multiple times while he rings a prayer bell outside his flat.

"Like many other Hindus this has been a part of our family's five-minute, twice a week prayer routine," Mr Livanesh wrote in his post. "Having lived in this home for more than 20 years we never had any issues. I guess with COVID-19 we have a new norm," he added.

As we lived closer and closer to each other in land scarced singapore.. besides making the door fire rated.. can hdb consider sound proofing as an option for BTO buyers also ah?

To some it is music to the ears but to others....just alots of noises. Wat can i say......just enjoy the music while its last......maybe add some dancesteps while u will at it.... Just be happy it is a pandemic n not endemic yet.

This is what happens when you pack people together like sardines, without giving cultural cohesion lessons.

Why are prayers outside the house? Religion should be practiced inside the house isn't it? Else everyone practices on the street it would be chaos.

But why can't the Hindu prayer done inside the flat and not outside which is public area. She must be too frustrated and went to Chinatown to buy a gong to counteract the buzzing sound in her ears.

Before handphones had quality camera to record, people just report to police, either that or they just tolerate their ignorant behaviors. Nowadays, everything just gets recorded and thrown on the internet.

As a responsible reader, we should not take side because we really don't know how, when & what had happened before it reach such state. I guess it's wise to take this case as neighbour dispute which is quite common. Why, I see both as Singaporean.

Is all these news helping us? I haven't read this news but hope it also include expert's advice on what the involved party should do to settle it amicably. Guess it's part of any medias' social responsibility.

i may sound like a lunatic but unintentionally the pady played the gong along with the prayer bells of the indian man. that the right way to do the prayers. along with the gong. she added to the prayers 😂

Livanesh Ramu. Do what you do. You are supported.

I might just be lucky, I live in HDB. My neighbors both Chinese and my good friends though they don’t seem to talk to each other too much. 🤪🤪🤪

That escalated quickly!

After 20yrs ....this is just happening. Now the question is wat has driven her to such action n wat is the underlining causes. Cannot just pin it down to racism....its take 2 hands to clap ya.
