SINGAPORE: A plastic bag charge at more than 20 NTUC FairPrice supermarkets and convenience stores will be extended for another year from Nov 12"following positive customer response".
Plastic bags will cost the same after the pilot - S$0.20 and S$0.10 per transaction at the supermarkets and convenience stores respectively. "The 'No Plastic Bag' initiative is part of the FairPrice Plastic Bag Management Programme which aims to reduce excessive use of plastic bags and at the same time encourage a behavioural change in customers," said FairPrice Group CEO Seah Kian Peng.
Pls also encourage bakeries to reward customers with points or free gifts if we shop with our own bags. Charging customers more for plastic bags may not be as effective as a thank reward gift. Encouragement is more efficient than punishments.
Pls also encourage luxury bakeries to put all buns in one larger paper bag rather than put individual buns in small little bags n then pack all the packaged buns into a larger bag. I was surprised at how many plastic bags were used for just 3 small buns! 4 plastic bags were used.
'positive customer response'.
